Ingredients: Each Cecon® chewable tablet contains 500 mg of ascorbic
acid.
Indications: Each Cecon chewable tablet is indicated whenever
ascorbic acid is required in greater than average doses for the prevention
and treatment of ascorbic acid deficiency. Ascorbic acid deficiency results
in scurvy. Collagenous structures are primarily affected, and lesions
develop in bones and blood vessels. Administration of ascorbic acid
completely reverses the symptoms of ascorbic acid deficiency. In addition to
the therapy of overt deficiency conditions, such as adult and infantile
scurvy, ascorbic acid is used as an adjunctive agent in the treatment of
such conditions as:
Burns: It has been shown that burns increase the need for
water-soluble vitamins, especially ascorbic acid.
Surgery: Administration of ascorbic acid has been demonstrated to be
beneficial in hastening postoperative recovery.
Wound healing: Ascorbic acid is essential in the formation of
intracellular ground substance and collagen and thus in the repair of
endothelium, the blood vessel walls and the connective-tissue structures
generally.
Geriatrics: Ascorbic acid deficiency in the elderly is frequently
observed and may result from inadequate intake, decreased absorption,
increased excretion or increased utilization. Ascorbic acid deficiency
seriously affects the general condition of the patient and may increase
susceptibility to infections.
Stress: Conditions of stress associated with severe injuries,
hemorrhage, infectious disease, prolonged and debilitating illnesses
increase the demand and utilization for ascorbic acid.
