Indications: Pulmonary Tuberculosis: In the initial treatment and in
retreatment of Pulmonary Tuberculosis, Abrifam (rifampicin) must be used in
combination with at least 1 other antituberculous drug because of the
rapidity with which resistance may develop when used alone.
Frequenly used combination regimens are as follows
Abrifam and isoniazid
Abrifam and ethambutol
Abrifam ethambutol and isoniazid
Abrifam pyrazinamide and isoniazid
Neisseria meningitides carriers: Abrifam (rifampicin) is indicated for
the treatment of asymptomatic carriers of N. meningitides to eliminate
meningococci from the nasopharynx. It is not intended for the treatment of
meningococcal infection.
